Camino de Santiago de Compostela Walk

This September 2019 John Caine, together with friends Brendan Foster, Ian Stewart and Eric Wilkins are planning to walk the 500 Miles of the famous Camino de Santiago de Compostela in Aid of the Oesophagoose Charity. They have set a fantastic target of £50,000.

John was diagnosed at treated for Stomach Cancer 20 years ago and having walked the Camino 2 years ago to help a friend supporting a Pancreatic Charity, decided to mark this 20 year Anniversary of his successful treatment by doing something special as a big thank you to the team of experts on ward 36.

Oesophageal and Stomach Cancer is the 5th most commonest cause of Cancer Death, usually because it is not discovered early enough. The money raised will help to continue  research the causes and treatment of the these  cancers and help to raise the success rates and outcomes for those people who are faced with the challenge of overcoming this challenge to their existence.

In Johns words “There’ll be no slacking with those guys around. We’re all motivated, If you are one of the hundreds of ward 36 survivors out there, my invitation to you is to find 10 people who are happy that you’re still alive and ask them for £10 each to aid that important research. If 500 of us cancer survivors can raise £100 each that would be a starter of £50,000. Remember, we are the lucky ones .Of course, if you’ve never experienced the above disease I still invite you to support the project with any donation you can manage —- look on it as an insurance investment. If you choose to use the “Donate” button on this web page please make sure you also click the “Gift Aid” button at the end of the process if you can. This allows the charity to claim the tax relief and further boost your donation by some 25%.The umbrella charity is the Newcastle Hospitals NHS Charity. They will receive the donations and ensure every penny goes to the correct research fund.If you want to pay by cheque please make payable to “Newcastle Hospitals NHS Charity” but make sure to write Oesophagoose Fund on the back of the cheque and mail to Charitable Funds Office ,Peacock Hall, Queen Victoria Rd Newcastle upon Tyne ,NE1 4LP”

The Walk will commence on  Sept 11th to Oct 14th and also joining them  for the first 100 miles will be Andrew Weaver who is helping because one of his friends benefited from Ward 36 skills.
