The Northern Oesophago-Gastric Unit has been involved in research for 30 years. We have an interest in both clinical research and translational research (basic sciences), and usually have at least one research registrar undertaking an MD or PhD.

Our current research registrar is Jakub Chmelo, who is undertaking a study to look at the feasibility of “prehabilitation”.  We know that patients will do better at the time of surgery if their fitness is good, and the aim of his study is to try and help patients maintain fitness whilst they receive chemotherapy prior to surgery.

Papers from NOGU and collaborations, are regularly published in peer review journals and links to abstracts can be found here.
